Dock Cottage: A peaceful Haven in the Heart of Robin Hood’s Bay

The Grade II-listed, 17th-century building is one of the village’s most recognisable landmarks standing just metres from the beach.
Once a fisherman’s home, now a lovingly restored holiday cottage, Dock Cottage offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the magic of Yorkshire’s rugged coast while enjoying all the comforts of modern living.
From the moment you step inside, Dock Cottage wraps you in its charm. The cottage sleeps four guests across two beautifully appointed bedrooms. On the second floor, a cosy double room comes with a small en-suite shower and views stretching over the harbour to the beach. It’s the sort of view that tempts you to linger with your morning coffee, watching the first walkers appear along the shoreline.

Climb another flight, and you’ll find a twin bedroom tucked beneath the eaves. Decorated in cool coastal tones, it’s bright, tranquil, and filled with character. The sash window looks down over the heart of the village – perfect for a spot of people-watching as the tide creeps in and the light shifts across the bay.
On our first evening, after a breezy coastal walk along the cliff path, we returned to Dock Cottage just as the sun began to dip behind the headland.
Cosy and inviting
The living room, with its warm interiors and cosy log fire, felt instantly inviting. We lit the fire, curled up with blankets, and watched the last of the day fade from the window overlooking the square. There’s something about Robin Hood’s Bay that encourages you to slow down, to read a good book, play a board game or simply gaze out as the sea glimmers in the distance and the sound of laughter drifts up from the street below.

The next morning, we made breakfast in the cottage’s well-equipped kitchen—complete with oven, microwave, and fridge. We ate warm croissants and sipped tea, while the rhythmic sound of waves filled the air. The pace here allows you to breathe deeply and notice the small things: the creak of wooden floorboards, the scent of salt on the breeze, the distant cry of gulls.
Robin Hood’s Bay may be small, but it offers endless ways to fill your days. We wandered through the narrow lanes lined with independent shops and galleries, each one crammed with pretty gifts and local crafts. Turning down hidden alleys, we found quiet corners where the last of the autumn flowers bloomed, and cats basked in patches of sun.

A little exploring off the beaten track led us to the village’s upper cliffs, where the views across the bay were nothing short of breathtaking.
One of Dock Cottage’s greatest assets is its practicality. Despite its location in the historic lower village, there is private parking for guests at the top of the Bay. The cottage is dog-friendly too, so four-legged companions can join in your adventures and enjoy having the beach on the doorstep.
By the time we packed to leave, Dock Cottage had worked its quiet magic, we felt fully rested and ready to face the new week.
As we looked back one last time from the top of the hill, the tide rolling in beneath the cottage windows, we knew we’d be back again soon.
