SPONSORED | Walks from Ambleside and our stay at No.10 Romney Grange

In The Lake District, there’s no place more central to stay than Ambleside. It sits right in the heart of the national park where you are surrounded by lakes and mountains galore. You can take part in pretty much every adventurous activity straight from your front door. I think there is something so wonderful about arriving somewhere on holiday and having the joy of not needing to use your car all week. What a joy!

First things first, you need a base. No.10 Romney Grange is in the apartment to make your stay a perfect one. The place is cosy, warm, comfortable - like a home away from home, has incredible views and a bath for the all-important recovery from your adventures and walking from the door!

No.10 Romney Grange - Waterhead, Ambleside

No.10 Romney Grange has got two large bedrooms, the building used to be a hotel so everything feels very grand as soon as you walk in. The bedrooms both have en-suites, dressing tables, closets and grand beds that are some of the most comfortable I’ve slept in.

The lounge is right in the centre of the apartment, an extremely spacious room that somehow feels cosy at the same time. You can relax on the massive sofas with a glass of wine or switch on your favourite film and cosy up on a cold evening. The room also gets sunlight for more than 80% of the day, making it a great space to spend the whole day and soak up the views over Windermere, the lake, and on to The Langdales and beyond.

The kitchen and dining space doesn’t disappoint. Whether you’re using it to cook an amazing meal with your friends or family, or relaxing with drinks and nibbles before you head into Ambleside. A perfect space for entertaining with all the equipment you need in a full kitchen.

Now it’s time to start planning your adventures from the door…

Walks from Ambleside - 5 walks from the door of No.10 Romney Grange

Walks from Ambleside - Wansfell & Wansfell Pike
One of my favourite walks, not just from Ambleside, but in the whole of The Lake District. And not just because there’s a pub halfway round! The route is steep but not long, so you can really take your time.
It’s great for families and little ones wanting to walk their first mountain. The path that takes you back into Ambleside under the mountain cuts right past No.10 Romney Grange, making it ideal! A great route can be found below.

Walks from Ambleside - Fairfield
For those who aim for something a little higher and more challenging. A great day out that takes you on one of The Lake District’s most famous horseshoes. Views from the top will go east to the Pennines and west over to the Scafell range. A great day out.

Walks from Ambleside - Rydal
The walk through the valley to Rydal from Ambleside means you can go and explore the Rydal Caves, waterfalls, lake and Rydal Mount. It’s a great day to explore a lovely village just up the road from where you are staying.

Stock Ghyll Force Waterfalls
One of the most impressive waterfalls, just a 20 minute walk out of Ambleside. From No.10 Romney Grange you can walk through the woods to the viewing platforms and bridge that give you a great view down the 70ft tumbling falls.
The pools surrounding it are a stunning emerald colour and there are plenty of places to picnic and relax in the surrounding woodland.

Grasmere
Walking Ambleside to Grasmere via the coffin route is a classic for Lake District scenery. You get taken past Rydal, through forests, by lakes and when you arrive in Grasmere you can relax with coffee and cake in a cafe or take in all the literary history at Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth exhibition.
When you are ready to head back to No.10 Romney Grange you can walk back over Loughrigg Fell, another favourite of mine and my first ever, or catch the bus back if you’re ready for a bath and a beer!

My Favourite time to spend in any space is first thing in the morning. Some peace and quiet before the day starts. This apartment is the epitome of peaceful. You would never know that you have neighbours above and below you, and that you are just a stones throw out of one of the busiest towns in The Lake District, Ambleside. I spent some time making a cuppa for my boyfriend, admiring the view and waking up in a leisurely way. It was a wonderful way to start the day.
