Date night inspiration in Northumberland.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, you may be dusting off that book of date ideas. Where will you be treating your loved one this year? Luckily, I have a guide to date night inspiration across Northumberland and have tried to include a variety of ideas away from your bog standard spaghetti bolognese by candlelight. (You’re picturing Lady and the Tramp as well, aren’t you?) These date night ideas don’t have to be exclusively for Valentine’s Day either. Why not write them all down on pieces of paper and pick one out each month to try?

It also goes without saying, that while I have called these date night ideas, they can be turned into afternoons, full days or even overnight stays.

Because there is so much variety on offer in Northumberland, I wanted to capture this in my round up. So be it trekking up in the Cheviots with Alpacas or watching a show at the Playhouse, there is something for everyone. Variety is the spice of life after all.

The Inn Collection.

With five Inns across Northumberland, there is bound to be one which will be just what you are looking for in a romantic getaway. The Inn Collection offers incredible food, perfectly picked locations and a comfy nights stay. Even better if you visit before the end of March, you can take full advantage of their Winter Package deal which includes dinner, bed and breakfast.
Take your pick from one of these locations:
The Lindisfarne Inn, Beal – right before the causeway to Holy Island.
The Bamburgh Castle Inn, Seahouses – great views over the harbour.
The Hoggs Head, Alnwick – conveniently located just off the A1.
The Amble Inn, Amble – there is a hive of activity in Amble with plenty to see and do.
The Commissioners Quay Inn, Blyth – with a waterfront location.

The Alnwick Playhouse.

Personally, I love coming here and think it would make for a great date night for lovers of screen and stage. The Playhouse in Alnwick offers a mix of cinema and theatre, with the latest films showing as well as a programme of events throughout the year. From local bands to amateur dramatics, there is something for everyone.
Arrive early to take full advantage of the smart bar area or if you are visiting for an afternoon performance, there is a café downstairs with comfy seats and window tables.
You can take your drinks with you into the auditorium and there is also a stall selling popcorn and ice creams. All very relaxed mixed with that exciting feeling of visiting the theatre.

Afternoon tea at the Running Fox.

I might just let the photo do all the talking here. How good do those cakes look? A Running Fox afternoon tea could be seen as a challenge. I have yet to finish one and even my husband who doesn’t like to be defeated by food has struggled to finish his last piece of cake. Don’t worry though, whatever you can’t manage will be boxed up for you to enjoy at home.
Currently The Running Fox is offering a variety of Valentine’s Day themed afternoon teas and hampers. The afternoon tea for two is priced at £50 and includes: two sandwiches, two slices of either pie or quiche, two slices of cake, scones, truffles and heart shaped biscuits.

The Pig in Muck.

Somewhere I have always wanted to visit but not a one I would take the kids to. So, I’m banking this one for a date night. Located in the centre of Alnwick, The Pig in Muck overlooks the marketplace. With a delicious looking menu serving brunch and tapas and an extensive drinks menu including local gins and rum, it would be a great chance to try somewhere different this Valentine’s Day.
They have a special Valentine’s set menu for £25 per person and includes oysters and Bloody Mary shots for a starter. Booking essential via the link below.

Couples Massage with Physical Freedom.

Told you there would be a few things that offered something a bit different for your date night inspiration.
Why not book in for a couples massage with Dave at his home yoga studio?
For £250 a couple can learn basic massage techniques over two and a half hours and includes refreshments. Bookable by emailing admin@physicalfreedom.co.uk

The Bosk - Breamish Valley.

A truly unique dining, wine bar and B&B situated in the stunning Breamish Valley. Open Wednesday to Saturday evenings offering a different menu each night, and on a Sunday you can expect either a brunch or Sunday lunch (these switch up weekly). I would come here for a date night any time of year but if you are booking for Valentine’s Day there is a special set menu which includes a free glass of prosecco upon arrival. Be quick though as there are limited tables available. Call 01665 660129 to book.

If you are looking to make a real night of it, why not book into one of the three bed and breakfast rooms and take advantage of the luxury facilities onsite. These include a gym, swimming pool and tennis court.

Beirhope Alpacas.

Definitely something quite different but a great experience all the same. We did this once for a family members birthday and it was a lot of fun. Beirhope is located up in the Scottish borders, nestled amongst the Cheviot Hills. There are a variety of different packages available from lunch with the alpacas to taking them for a walk up in the hills. The walk is guided and very informative. I guarantee you will have a lot of laughs and a very enjoyable time. Providing you like alpacas and walking of course.
