Christmassy Events In Hertfordshire

Isn’t the run up to Christmas the best time? I just love all the fun things to see and do in the weeks leading up to the big day and as a family we try and get to a couple of Christmas events to build on the excitement that starts from early November.

There’s a lot to Christmassy events to choose from in Hertfordshire, free and cheaper events take place throughout the county in shopping malls and garden centres but if you’re looking for a splash out big treat for the family, here are some suggestions, but book soon as they can sell out!

Santa Spectacular at Willows Activity Farm

Willows Activity Farm transforms into an incredible winter wonderland from 19th November to 23rd December featuring an impressive list of things to see and do, ensuring a full packed festive day out for families with young kids.

Kids can choose a gift in Santa’s grotto, make their own soft toy at the ‘Create-A-Cuddle’ workshop, write letters to Santa, decorate gingerbread men, watch a show and short 3D film, tractor rides, funfair, skate on the synthetic ice rink and much more.

From £44 for kids over 2 years of age, free for under 2’s and £20 for adults.

Hatfield House light trail

A brand new after-dark trail consisting of over a million lights and lasers illuminating Hatfield House’s extensive park and gardens. The installations are designed by a range of international artists and are choreographed to festive music making a delightful experience amongst the stunning setting.

A range of street vendors are located within the trail so you can be kept warm with Christmassy treats including spiced winter warmer, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

The event takes place each evening from 25th November to 9th December. Entry from £17.

Christmas shopping and eating at Knebworth House

On November 25, 26th and 27th the Knebworth Christmas Fair returns to the Barns and Marquees at Knebworth House. Marketed as the regions biggest festive shopping event, visitors can browse Christmas gifts whilst enjoying delicious festive food and drink. Kids entry £4, adults from £7.

Between December 19th and 23rd you can enjoy Dine with Santa, which consists of wonderful Christmas meal at Knebworth Barns including an arrival platter, two course meal, mince pies and a visit from the big man himself. Kids are kept happy during the meal with Christmas colouring an activity sheets. £28 per child and £38 per adult.

Christmas at Paradise Wildlife Park

During December, as well as seeing over 800 Amazing Animals and 30 Life-Size Moving Dinosaurs (one of the best animatronic dinosaur adventure trails in the UK), visitors can also get the chance to visit Santa, who will be at the park every weekend from 3rd December and every day from 17th December to 24th December.

Visitors can get their picture taken with Santa, walk through a festive fairy light tunnel and visit Santa’s reindeer in the Woodland Walk.

A visit to Santa’s grotto is included in the general park entry fee which start from £20, under 2’s go free.

Christmas at Hogworts

A Christmassy feel comes to The Warner Bros Studio Tour with the Harry Potter sets having a festive makeover including a Christmas feast set out in the decorated Great Hall and snow covering the Hogwarts castle model and Diagon Alley.

Visitors can also learn about wintery filmmaking techniques with hands-on experiences of filmmaking fire, ice and snow as well as learning how set dressers transform sets for Christmas scenes.

Tickets to the Warner Bros Studio Tour sell well in advance but cancelled tickets are posted back onto the website so they will appear as/when they become available, so it is worth checking regularly.
All extra features are included in the ticket price.

Lumagica St Albans

A unique large-scale light show that incorporates opportunities to play with light and create your own personal experience.

The trail features oversized light sculptures of mythical and wild animals, as well as interactive installations where you can change the lighting effects along with the sounds that accompany them.

Located at Willows Activity Farm, the trail is suitable for all ages and is wheelchair and pushchair accessible.

Entry from £20 per person. Family tickets from £54.
