The Star Inn the City

A Brasserie style restaurant overlooking the River Ouse in one of the finest locations for dining outdoors in York. The Star Inn the City is situated in an enviable riverside location on the edge of York Museum Gardens and close to the historic Lendal Bridge. Their outdoor terrace is a real sun trap and is the perfect place to enjoy some lunch outside.
Described as “a little taste of the countryside in the city” expect fresh seafood dishes, burgers and a variety of vegetarian dishes, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to eating well. Headed up by Michelin-starred chef Andrew Pern, enjoy a regularly changing menu of seasonal favourites. Enjoy the perfect al fresco dining experience, the Star Inn The City is definitely one of my favourite places to eat in York.

The Fat Badger

Nestled within York’s bustling High Petergate, The Fat Badger is a popular place for outdoor dining. One of the best beer gardens in York, diners can enjoy comfortable seating in a relaxed environment set back from the city centre. With options for lunch and dinner the menu is varied with plenty to choose from. Wonderful views of York Minster definitely completes the al fresco dining experience.

The Judges Lodging

A Grade I listed Georgian townhouse The Judges Lodging is situated in a prime position in the heart of York, offering authentic Yorkshire dishes which can be eaten outdoors on a hidden upstairs terrace or in the front courtyard overlooking the street. Enjoy AA Rosette award winning food in characterful surroundings watching the world go by. Open for brunch through to dinner, menu highlights include steaks, burgers and some delicious sharing plates.

The Churchill

A favourite amongst locals and visitors as one of the best al fresco dining spots, The Churchill makes a great destination whatever the weather. Only a five-minute walk from the city walls, you’ll enjoy soaking up the atmosphere within a covered and heated outdoor terrace area. For Spring and Summer, guests will be able to enjoy the benefits of the pizza oven and I’d definitely recommend trying one of their pizzas! During the winter months, The Churchill has some lovely outdoor igloos which makes it possible to dine outside all year round.

Dyls

Found in an iconic Motor House on Skeldergate Bridge overlooking the River Ouse and Clifford’s Tower, Dyl’s is a wonderful calm space away from the busy cobbled streets. The terrace has comfortable seating with plenty of room and provides the perfect meeting space for any occasion. On the menu you can expect dishes made from locally sourced produce with the specials updated every day. Perfect for lunch and drinks, this central spot is a great choice to dine al fresco after a busy morning exploring all the main sights and attractions.

The Grand, York

Escape the everyday at York’s most luxurious address, The Courtyard at The Grand is the perfect place to unwind and relax all year round. Hidden away with an entrance from The Rise restaurant, only those who are there know it exists. The courtyard has comfortable seating and provides the perfect backdrop to take in views of York’s city walls. With a menu of refreshing cocktails and light bites, The Grand is worth a visit anyway on its own merits – you don’t need to check in to check out The Grand.

Sora Sky Bar
