What I loved about it:

Walking through the quiet New Forest just after rainfall, listening to the last few drops fall through the canopy. Floating around the hydro pool whilst staring out into the trees. There’s a certain relaxed feeling you get at the Herb House Spa at Lime Wood which feels magical.

Location:

Herb House Spa at Lime Wood Hotel – Lyndhurst, Hampshire

Suitable for:

Anybody who is looking to get back into nature and spend some time on their mental wellness

Value for money (out of 10):

Rewilding retreats - what are they?

Rewilding is actually a progressive form of conservation and all about letting nature take care of itself. In the context of a retreat; the Lime Wood ethos is that we ‘should immerse ourselves in the natural world, allowing time for quiet contemplation, escaping the pressures of everyday life, and slowing the pace right down’. They are themed around the healing power of nature, and the surrounding ancient woodlands provide the ideal location.

I was invited along to sample some of the delights that await anyone attending one of these retreats. To start with, there was a breakfast at Raw and Cured – fresh fruit and vegetable juices, great coffee and a varied selection of wholesome foods. The pumpernickel rye bread can be topped with whipped goat cheese, walnuts and honey, or is equally delicious served with seed butter, bananas and blueberries. I’ve linked to my previous review of Raw and Cured in the ‘handy links’ section below.

The menu has been lovingly designed by Chef Ria who trained firstly as a Nutritionist and is just one of the members of the team who is on hand to provide their expertise to rewilding retreat guests. Another is Justin Pimm who is Head of Fitness at Lime Wood. Justin took us on a guided walk into the New Forest and explained how the retreats really help strengthen the link between our mental and physical health. Guests are encouraged to walk silently and use their senses to appreciate the forest; the sights and scents are very calming.

All retreats include access to the Herb House spa facilities which are heavenly. From the moment you walk into the clean and luxurious changing rooms, you know you’re in for a treat. There are plenty of lockers, robes and flip flops as well as complimentary Bamford products to use during your visit. The hydro pool looks out into the trees so you almost feel as if you’re in the forest again, and there is a sauna, steam room and hot stone beds in this area. There’s an indoor pool surrounded with loungers, and an outdoor jacuzzi pool which feels even more special on a rainy day.

Details of the rewilding retreats:

Wild Wanderings on the 27th September – this one day retreat is £225 and includes breakfast and lunch, forest bathing, movement, pilates, meditation and breathwork classes and use of the Herb House Spa. I think is great value for money and this would be my personal choice of retreat.

Forest Fix on 11th October is £325 and is for those who would love to undertake some fitness activities with talented coaches, out in the forest. There’s a 60 minute Bamford massage to help muscle recovery afterwards as well as meals and use of the Herb House Spa.

And if one day of wellness isn’t enough, there is a three day retreat running from 14-16th September. This residential retreat is all about the Power of Nature with Bamford. It costs from £1905 and includes a mixture of Bamford spa treatments, forest bathing, yoga and mindfulness sessions. This is alongside plenty of nutritious food, time for sleep and restoration and that all-important spa time. Full details are available on the link provided below.

If you miss out on these incredible retreats then do keep an eye out for information on 2023 – yet to be released but I shall update you when I can.
