L7 by LOTTE, Chicago – Review

It feels stylish but not stuffy, the staff are welcoming from the moment you enter the lobby, this hotel is perfect for curious travellers who love a cultural twist with their city break.
L7 by LOTTE
What I loved about it
The vibe. I know that sounds a bit vague, but you can tell that the hotel sees itself as a ‘home away from home’ rather than simply a place to stay and that’s great for a solo female traveller. I’m 100% here for it.
Location 225 N. Wabash Avenue Chicago, IL 60601
Suitable for Couples, Girls Weekends, Families.
Tucked away in Chicago’s buzzing theatre district, L7 Chicago by LOTTE is a slick, design-led hotel that blends Korean hospitality with downtown cool. Sleek interiors, thoughtful little luxuries and destination dining at Perilla, all create a real sense of place that celebrates both the city’s heritage and LOTTE’s roots.

First impressions of the room are honestly about as good as it gets. From the yoga mat & weights to the coffee machine and kettle – yes, a kettle! – I’m right at home.
The views are amazing, situated in a corner suite overlooking the Chicago River and Trump Tower, I have the picture-perfect location to watch the world go by.
Speaking of watching the world go by, check out that window seating!
One of the highlights of my stay was my enjoying a morning coffee while sitting in the window watching Chicago come to life, I had to pinch myself to check that it was real, and not the opening titles of a movie.

The bathroom is sophisticated with Apotheke plant-based products, filtered drinkable tap water and double doors that are ideal for bursting through, wrapped in a towel, singing into a hairbrush (not-so sophisticated but great fun, 10/10 would recommend).
Eventually I must tear myself away, and head out to do what I am here for – to explore Chicago.
Chicago is one of those cities that you feel like you know already. A glittering skyline and iconic architecture teamed with deep-dish pizza joints and world-class museums, there’s always something to dive into. I’m a big Ferris Bueller fan, and I was rapt just wandering along Dearborn Street (location of the parade) and the downtown area before I’d even started on any of the must-see sights!
The L7 is in an enviable spot, it’s minutes from the Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Navy Pier. In fact, it’s in striking distance of everything in the city, making it a top choice for travellers seeking premium hotels in Chicago with the added bonus that if you lose your bearings, you can just look for Trump Tower and find your way home.
After a full day exploring, immersed in the buzz of Chicago, I arrive back at my room as twilight settles over the city, just in time to see the last golden rays reflected in the surrounding buildings, an experience in itself. It is mesmerising to sit back for a while and watch the city twinkle into nighttime mode.
I had already eaten while I was out, but if visitors are planning to eat at the hotel, they would be wise to book in advance. The signature restaurant, Perilla Korean American Steakhouse, is more than just a hotel eaterie. It has a culinary twist that draws in visitors to the city and locals alike, eager to enjoy table-side Korean BBQ and innovative cocktails.
• There is a plug socket close to the mirror, great for getting ready. A socket next to the bed would be handy.
• The hand towels are big enough that you can wrap your wet hair.
• There is a mini-market across the street if you want snacks.
• If you don’t want to leave the hotel, there’s a 24 hour station with coffee, tea & snacks in the lobby.
• Air purification systems are in place and they really help you to avoid the snuffles.
• 7-minute walk to the Blue L-train station, that will take you directly to the airport.
I'd love to return to the L7 in Chicago, and actually, based on this experience I'd seek out other hotels in the LOTTE group in other cities too. It's a thumbs up from me!
