Tony Cragg at Castle Howard
Striking Art, Stunning Surroundings
Oh My! I absolutely LOVE Castle Howard, and this summer I have even more reason than ever to love it – it is home to a special exhibition by internationally renowned artist Sir Tony Cragg including several large-scale sculptures in the Gardens.
So Much Fun
This is Castle Howard’s first ever headline contemporary sculpture exhibition, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. I am a huge fan of outdoor art, and Tony Craggs pieces are some of the best.
I have a beautiful memory from when the boys were little and we visited his exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park – Mack had a really physical reaction to the brightly coloured pieces, imitating the forms and spinning around, it was adorable!
Castle Howard itself is a great day out during the summer holidays, there is so much for the kids to do, the whole family can enjoy the artworks set against the backdrop of the beautiful Gardens and landscapes, and everyone will love visiting the treasures inside the magnificent House.
Children can enjoy a creative art trail around the Grounds as part of the exhibition, plus art and craft activities in the summer holidays.
The Gardens and Skelf Island Adventure Playground are open daily from 10am (9am for Friends of Castle Howard) with last admission at 4pm.
Viewing the outdoor sculptures is included in Gardens tickets, House & Gardens tickets will give you access to the indoor sculptures and works on paper inside the house.
The House is open daily from 10am until 3pm. Don’t forget to visit the Farm Shop, Courtyard Cafe and Garden Centre.
All onsite outlets operate on a cashless basis.
If you are planning to visit Tony Cragg at Castle Howard over the coming weeks, please review our opening times in advance as some sculptures will be moving for a private event.
