Hertfordshire's Open Air Cinemas
I define anyone to not enjoy an open-air cinema on a lovely warm day, and Hertfordshire has lots to choose from, with the majestic backdrop of stately homes to the ground of a luxury hotel or even in a lavender field.
Here’s a selection of just a few:
Everyman Secret Garden at The Grove
Everyman returns to the Grove this summer with its spectacular open-air cinema running from 14 July to 3 September. Set in the hotel’s walled garden, complete with comfy bean bags, headphones provided for optimal sound quality wherever you are sitting and a pop-up bar serving premium drinks and snacks.
Movie choices include hit musical movies such as The Greatest Showman and Mamma Mia, Disney favourites including Frozen and The Lion King, plus cult classics Notting Hill, Pretty Woman and Top Gun Maverick.
The cinema is available free of charge to hotel guests, or with a cinema and dining package at The Glasshouse, The Stables, Madhu’s at The Grove or Verde Kitchen, prices from £64 per adult and £40 per child.
Luna Cinema at Knebworth House
Luna Cinema will be returning to the grounds of one of Hertfordshire’s most famous stately homes, Knebworth House between July 5th – 8th.
Guests are welcome to bring a picnic and you can grab a drink at the on-site bar. For an upgraded experience you can hire a director chair or purchase a blankets or back rest.
Sundown Cinema at Hitchin Lavender
This stunning and unique open-air cinema will be open from 10-13 August. Bag a spot amongst the floral and aromatic lavender to enjoy a choice of either classic movies or newer releases.
Tickets from £11.00 for and adult and £5.50 for a child, for an extra charge you can hire a deckchair or beanbag.
Adventure Cinema at Ashridge House
Touring cinema, Adventure Cinema comes to the grounds of the historic Ashridge House, a Grade I Country House, from 25-27 July, with evening viewings of Top Gun, Elvis and Mama Mia each day.
Screen on the Green at Welwyn Garden City
Howardsgate in Welwyn Garden City will be home to Screen on the Green between 17-19 August.
9 blockbuster films will be screened over this free three-day event including Lyle Lyle Crocodile, Puss In Boots The Last Wish and Super Mario Bros
Big Screen Watford
Watford is also hosting a free open air cinema this summer. Running in two locations- the town centre from 24-30 July and Woodside from 31 July to 6 August, there are a huge number of movies being shown, from classics such as The Jungle Book, Big and Jaws to newer releases including Elvis and Lightyear.
