Halloween in Hertfordshire

With its fair share of stately homes and historic landmarks dating back hundreds of years it is not surprising that Hertfordshire is packed full of haunted locations.

Hatfield House is reportedly haunted by several ghosts including that of Queen Elizabeth I, who wanders the Old Palace and a phantom coach and horses which drives right up to the house, through the doors and up the staircase.

Walking up to the majestic St Albans Abbey will leave you in no surprise that several ghosts are said to inhabit it. Strange occurrences that have been reported include a ghostly choir singing, hooded figures wondering the isles and the organ playing on its own.

The White Hart Hotel, also in St Albans, is said to be the most haunted hotel in Hertfordshire and both guests and staff have reported sites of a number of ghosts and phenomenon experiences.

From the outside, Gothic Knebworth House would certainly look rather chilling at dark and it’s no difference inside, where there have been a number of ghostly sightings including a young child who appears to the resident family with news of an impending death.

If you’d rather not come face to face with ‘real ghosts’, try out one of the many great Halloween events happening in Hertfordshire:
