Review: Little Bracken - Why you should stay at this New Forest luxury accommodation
What I loved about it:
It was the little details which made it special; the fancy coffee machine, the generous welcome basket and hand-written note, the comfy bed. It all adds up to being the perfect place to stay and enjoy the coast AND the New Forest.

What to expect at Little Bracken
If you’re looking for some New Forest luxury accommodation then you’ll love Little Bracken. From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt calm and relaxed. Perhaps it was the serene sounds coming from the radio, or the fragrant scents which subtly waft around each room. There’s a peace which greets you, despite being in the centre of Lymington.
Little Bracken has been thoughtfully designed by Amanda, who is a designer by trade. She has transformed this townhouse into a beautiful space which is perfect for a Hampshire staycation. Each room flows perfectly in a haze of neutral colours and natural textures. There’s not even the ugliness of a TV to disturb it as Samsung Art TVs are pretty as a picture.
The living area is kept comfortable and cosy with the addition of a gas fire, and there’s a selection of books and games to keep you entertained. The kitchen is better equipped than my own… there’s no need to pack anything yourself. There’s elements of luxury everywhere, from a wine fridge (including a welcome bottle of English sparkling wine) to a high-end coffee machine – perfect for making yourself a cappuccino in the morning. I was able to try a hot chocolate made with the famous Velvetiser, and I can see what the hype is about.
The kitchen leads out onto a courtyard with a table and chairs. It’s an afternoon sun-trap and the ideal spot for enjoying a glass of wine whilst listening to the relaxing water feature. If you bring your bikes for a New Forest cycling adventure then there is access via the neighbouring garden.
On the first floor is the master bedroom, which is warm and inviting. The bed is huge, and adorned with several cushions so you can really get comfortable and relax. The house is just off the High Street, but the windows have been well-insulated and once the blackout blind was lowered I had a great night’s sleep! The fluffy white robes just add to the comfort of this New Forest luxury accommodation.
In the bathroom you’re treated to underfloor heating, which felt wonderful after a long bath. Amanda has thoughtfully provided Senspa toiletries, hairdryer and plenty of towels. Once again, everything is decorated with great taste and beauty.
There is another bedroom on the second floor which has twin beds. The house sleeps four, though I would say it’s best enjoyed as a romantic break for two. It’s neither child nor pet-friendly, which is actually a selling point for me. It means you can fully relax without the worry of your child or pet ruining something.
There’s no parking at the house, but Amanda kindly provides a New Forest parking clock, which allows you to park for 20 hours in many of the forest car parks. You can use this in the Waitrose opposite the house, or park as we did on a residential road a couple of minutes walk away. You can always unload your bags just outside the house.
Check in is really simple too by way of a key box at the door. There was a very generous welcome hamper awaiting us, full of local goodies such as New Forest shortbread, Setley wine and Pig beer.
It would be very easy to spend the whole weekend cosying up inside this New Forest luxury accommodation, but there’s a lot to do nearby too. I’d personally recommend staying on a Friday night as there’s a Saturday market in Lymington. It runs both sides of the High Street and is full of great stalls selling all sorts of wares. There are some excellent charity shops where you can spot a designer bargain or two, and a number of places to grab lunch.
On an evening you can choose one of the many restaurants in the centre; we had a lovely meal at The Angel and Blue Pig. For a fine-dining experience then The Elderflower comes highly recommended. You would need to book this in advance but it’ll be worth it. The Haven is on the marina and is a good spot to catch the sunset. Amanda also makes some good suggestions in the pre-stay information.
If you like to explore the great outdoors then I’d recommend walking along the seafront to Keyhaven. This winding part of The Solent Way takes you through the marshes and nature reserve. You could take the vintage binoculars from the house and join the twitchers as they try and spot all the different seabirds. The walk takes just under two hours from the house but you’re rewarded with The Gun Inn in Keyhaven where the roaring fire and local pints are waiting. There’s a more direct route home which takes just under an hour.
You’re a few minutes drive from being in the New Forest National Park too and there are several places you could visit. I’ve got a few suggestions in my ‘48 hours in’ article which you’ll find in the handy links section. It’s the perfect escape for anyone who enjoys walking, cycling or just being in the forest.
I thoroughly recommend booking a getaway at Little Bracken and enjoying the luxuries for yourself. I will warn you though, you may want to move in forever!
