RECOMMENDATION: Festive Afternoon Tea at Hotel Gotham, Manchester
What I loved about it:
Hotel Gotham oozes luxury, glamour and just the right amount of quirky fun, and their festive afternoon tea is no different! It’s the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for somewhere special and indulgent for afternoon tea in Manchester, especially if you want somewhere romantic or grand.
Their Honey restaurant has, unsurprisingly, received two AA Rosette awards for Culinary Excellence, so you can you imagine how excited we were to get stuck in to their afternoon tea.

THE DETAILS
SETTING THE SCENE
Hotel Gotham in Manchester is exactly how you’d imagine it – beautiful with dramatic interiors and touches of elegant art deco in every corner. The décor is exquisite and quirky, and even the staff uniforms have been thoughtfully planned with 1920’s-style attire.
Their Honey restaurant on the sixth floor is just as stunning, with large half-moon windows overlooking Manchester city centre and subtle touches of antique ornamentation. If you’re lucky you can be seated next to one of the windows to dine with a view, although I’m sure you can ask if it’s not too busy.
As we entered the restaurant we passed shimmering Christmas trees with branches that were completely gold in colour, a baby grand piano and, to raise a curious eyebrow, a life-sized polar bear wearing a hat and some baubles!
We were seated along a table in the centre of the restaurant where we could take in all of our surroundings, including the tasteful yet lavish Christmas decorations that adorned the arches of the half-moon windows. Even though we weren’t sat by one of the windows it was still a real treat being able to see some great views out of them. A perfect setting for a festive afternoon tea in Manchester!
THE FOOD AND SERVICE
We went for Hotel Gotham’s festive afternoon tea… with a glass of Gotham Prosecco of course!
As a group of bridesmaids and a bride meeting properly for the first time, somewhere special was necessary to mark the occasion.
The afternoon tea was traditional in its’ delivery but with a few extra touches; before selecting which tea we fancied we were presented with a wooden box containing little containers of various tea leaves. After examining and smelling the leaves as well as reading their characteristics and ingredients, I went for the Planters Chai tea whilst one of our party went for a barista hot chocolate instead.
Our drinks arrived in classic teapots with tea leaf strainers and not long after, the main events arrived – the afternoon teas were gorgeous, one of which was a decent gluten-free selection for one of our party.
The food was presented on traditional three-tiered afternoon tea stands, with a colourful selection of finger sandwiches at the bottom, freshly-baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam in the centre and a selection of inviting little cakes at the top. All that with a tasty glass of Gotham prosecco each and we were good to go. The whole thing was delicious and indulgent but with that added touch of glam that we wanted, with excellent and attentive service to boot. Some of our party were too full to finish their treats, but were given cute food bags to take leftovers home to enjoy later!
You can view the menu for the festive afternoon tea at Hotel Gotham on their website and to book, you only need to give them a call. However, if you miss out this Christmas fear not – afternoon tea is available all year round at the Honey Restaurant which I’m sure will be just as brilliant!
Merry eating!
