Pizza night in the Lake District, with our new camping pizza oven

Yibake camping pizza oven
We’ve only had the campervan for a few months, and already we’re discovering the joy of checking the weather forecast and deciding to take a sneaky weekend break at a moment’s notice.

What freedom!

Last weekend we were in the Lake District to do a bit of walking (& to be close by for our youngest son and his friends who were hiking around the area).

On our first morning we set off early from Ambleside, climbing up and around Loughrigg Fell, and after about an hours climb we were rewarded with sweeping views of the valleys and glistening lakes below. It was glorious, but also so incredibly hot. By the time we looped around and made it back to our campsite, Skelwith Fold (great campsite by the way!), we were sweaty, shattered, dusty from the trails, and absolutely ravenous!

Ready in 10 minutes

Normally, campervan food would mean something basic and easy, beans, or soup with some bread, maybe a BBQ (if we can be bothered!). But this time, we had something different in our kit. Sitting quietly in the back of the campervan was our newest camping hero: a plug-in pizza oven!

We’d picked up a few chilled pizzas before heading out, and when we walked (limped) back into camp we simply plugged in the oven, popped the pizzas in, and within 10 minutes we had bubbling, golden, piping hot pizza straight onto our plates. No faffing about with fires or waiting for coals to heat, no messing with pans that stick, just instant comfort food. It was a revelation! I wish I’d taken better/more photos, but it was ready to eat so quickly, and it tasted so good… You know what pizza looks like anyway!

Sitting outside the van with two tired dogs at our feet, a cold drink in hand, fresh pizza and the most amazing night’s sky, we agreed it was one of the best post-hike meals we’d ever had.  And honestly? It couldn’t have been easier.

The next day we used it to heat falafel and flatbreads & I’m pretty sure you could use it for lots of other items (although it is specifically designed for pizza).

If you’re someone who loves the outdoors but doesn’t want to compromise on decent food, this little oven is a game-changer. We bought it from Amazon, it takes up hardly any space, plugs straight into your hook-up, and cooks pizza to perfection in just a few minutes.

Easy plug-in setup – Just plug it in and go.

Versatile cooking – Perfect for frozen or chilled supermarket pizzas, flatbreads, or even warming up leftovers.
