A Cosy Cheshire Countryside Escape: Our Stay at The Goose Lodge, Tarporley

We didn’t quite realise it until we arrived, but after a busy start to the year, my husband and I were really craving a bit of peace and quiet.
As we slowly drove into the Goose House’s driveway, passing geese, chickens and horses along the way, we stepped out of the car and were met with… complete silence.
Surrounded by open Cheshire fields, yet still within easy reach of villages like Tarporley and Bunbury, it instantly felt like the perfect couples’ escape. Peaceful, but not too remote.

About The Goose Lodge
The Goose Lodge is a bespoke, adult-only countryside retreat designed for slowing down and switching off. Set within farmland and surrounded by nature, it offers a peaceful escape with views across the Cheshire countryside.
The lodge itself is cosy yet thoughtfully designed, with soft textures, warm lighting and a layout that makes the most of the surrounding views.
Inside, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay, from a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom with a monsoon-style shower, to a small but well-equipped kitchen space and breakfast bar.
One of our favourite things was how private it felt. Although it’s located on-site, the lodge is tucked away enough to give you your own space, complete with outdoor seating, a fire pit, and uninterrupted countryside views. (and not only that – a hot tub is coming soon!)

A Slow Countryside Stay in Cheshire
This is the kind of place where you naturally slow down.
We spent our first afternoon exploring the lodge, taking in all the little details, before heading out to meet the animals on-site, something that makes the stay feel even more unique.
If you’re looking for things to do near Tarporley, there are plenty of options from countryside walks and local pubs to nearby attractions like Delamere Forest and the Sandstone Trail.
We decided to keep things simple and head out on foot.

A Canal Walk to Bunbury
Rather than heading to the nearby pub, we opted for a longer countryside walk along the canal into Bunbury, and it was completely worth it.
It’s one of those walks that’s easy, scenic and just really enjoyable – we loved seeing the canal boats use the many locks on this stretch. Quiet paths, open views, and that fresh countryside air you don’t always get at home.

Lunch at The Dysart Arms, Bunbury
After our walk, we stopped at The Dysart Arms, which was another highlight of the day.
The food and drinks were genuinely unreal, and exactly what you want after a long walk. We sat outside, took our time, and just enjoyed the atmosphere.
One of my favourite moments was hearing the bells from St Boniface’s Church in the background – it just added to that relaxed, countryside feel. I also spotted a small playground, so I’ll be back with the kids here.
Sunset Views & Slowing Down
We made our way back to the lodge just in time for sunset, and it was one of those simple but special moments.
Sitting outside, watching the sky change over the fields with a glass of wine and nothing but quiet around you – it’s the kind of reset you don’t realise you need.

Beauty at the Goose House: The On-Site Spa Experience
One of the standout features of staying at Goose Lodge is the on-site beauty retreat, Beauty at the Goose House.
This isn’t your typical salon – it’s a rural, award-winning beauty retreat designed to feel like a true escape, offering treatments from facials and massages to full body therapies.
Run by Paula, who has over 25 years of experience in the skincare industry, treatments are completely personalised and designed to help you relax both physically and mentally.
I was lucky enough to experience a bespoke facial during our stay, and it honestly elevated the whole trip. After a long walk, it was exactly what I needed, calming, restorative, and one of those moments where you properly switch off (literally – I may have drifted off!).
If you’re booking a stay, I’d highly recommend adding a treatment – it’s what really sets this place apart from other countryside stays, and would make such a lovely spa-style escape, whether you’re visiting as a couple or with a friend.
A Coffee Stop in Tarporley
Before heading home, we took a slow drive through Tarporley and stopped for a coffee.
It’s such a lovely village, full of independent shops and cafés, and the perfect way to ease yourself back into reality after a relaxing countryside stay.
If you’re looking for a Cheshire countryside staycation, Goose Lodge is one of those places that quietly delivers everything you need.
It’s cosy, private, and thoughtfully designed – with the added bonus of an on-site spa experience that really makes it feel like a proper retreat.
Perfect for couples, a reset weekend, or anyone needing a bit of calm. If you’re tempted to book, I’ve got a little something for you…
