Why October is the perfect time to visit Mallorca with kids

That’s why shoulder season is such a good time to visit Spain. It’s still warm enough to splash about, sit by the pool and enjoy an ice cream, but not so hot that it feels unbearable. Team that with fewer crowds, potentially lower prices and still decent weather, and October is the perfect time to get away for some winter sun.
Mallorca still saw average daytime highs of around 24°C last October, which is ideal when you’ve got little ones in tow.
Our top family hotel in Palma Nova
Our top hotel pick for Palma Nova is currently on offer with Luxury Escapes – and it’s one we’ve returned to every year since Luca was born!
Rosa Del Mar is right in the heart of Palma Nova, with the beautiful beach, shops and beachfront restaurants all just a 5-10 minute walk away. But the thing that draws us back every single time is the amazing sea-creature-themed splash pool, which is perfect for babies and toddlers.
There are two big slides for older kids – built into a giant octopus, of course – but it’s the toddler pool with the giant tortoise, little slides and fountains where we spend most of our day.
The splash pool is completely separate from the main pool too, which we love because you don’t get all the older kids mixed in with their inflatables and games of water polo. It just makes the whole area feel much safer and more relaxed when you’ve got little ones.
There’s also a shaded outdoor play area right next to it, where the kids’ team run themed activities every day, from drawing and face painting to building blocks. There’s even a small snack bar, so once you’re there, you really can stay put for most of the day.

We also love the evening entertainment and mini disco, where Sensi the Octopus often makes an appearance, and the rooms are spacious, clean and come as either studios or apartments.
Another huge plus for families is the transfer time. Palma Nova is around 20-25 minutes by taxi from Palma de Mallorca Airport, so you’re not facing a massive coach journey after the flight with tired kids in tow.
The October deal
Luxury Escapes currently has Rosa Del Mar on offer for October, with savings of up to 70% on selected stays and free cancellation.

Based on three people sharing, the dates I checked from 27th-31st October came in at £583 total for 4 nights on a half board basis with flexible cancellation, which works out at around £194 per person.
You can view the 4-night Luxury Escapes offer here.
If you fancy staying a bit longer, 23rd-31st October was £1,167 total for 8 nights half board, again based on three sharing, which works out at around £389 per person.
You can view the 8-night Luxury Escapes offer here.
You can also use my code thetinycaravannerautumn for a further 10% off.
Prices and availability can obviously change, but for an October half term break at a hotel we already know and love, I thought these were really good options, and if I wasn’t due to pop anytime soon – I’d 100% be off.

What we do every time we visit Palma Nova
If you do go ahead and book, there are a few things we end up doing every single year, plus a couple that feel like more of a treat.
Pirates Adventure in Magaluf is one we never seem to tire of. It’s such a brilliant family night out, with acrobatics, comedy, dancing, sword fights and a huge pirate ship right in the middle of the theatre. It’s the kind of show that keeps both the kids and adults entertained, which is always a win.
For food, you’re pretty much spoilt for choice along the beachfront, but The Olive Tree is one of our favourites and somewhere we always end up going back to. It sits right by Son Matias Beach, with lovely sea views and a relaxed feel, so it works really well with kids without feeling like you’re sacrificing a nice meal out.

And Luca’s favourite? Renting one of the little cars down on the beachfront. He thinks he’s driving, Dad gets to play with a remote-control car, and I get to watch Luca living his absolute best life.
It’s one of those places where we already have our little traditions, which is probably why we keep ending up back there. I already can’t wait to return.
