The Best Halloween Days Out in Yorkshire for Toddlers and Families

Room on the Broom Trail – Anglers Country Park

We LOVE a Julia Donaldson book, and we love a sculpture trail, so combine the two and you’ve already got a pretty good witchy day out!

This is a short, 2-mile circular walk where little ones can spot their quirky book friends along the way. There’s also a park at the start, plus a visitor centre, café and toilets, so it’s an easy one to make a few hours of.

The trail is suitable for prams, scooters and bikes, but be warned – it can get pretty muddy, so wellies are definitely a good shout.

Don’t forget to pick up the optional Room on the Broom activity pack from the Visitor Centre for £2, which adds a few extra activities to do as you make your way around the trail.

Kemps Farm – Horsforth Pick Your Own

This is by far the best-value pumpkin patch in Yorkshire, and that’s a hill of pumpkins I’d die on.

Entry is only £4 when booked online, and you start your visit with a tractor ride out to the pumpkin patch, where there’s always a huge variety to choose from. You’ve got everything from the traditional big orange pumpkins to smaller blue and grey varieties, plus plenty of spooky displays dotted around for photos. We actually have one of ours from last year framed in the kitchen!

We like to visit early in the season because it can turn into a bit of a mud bath later in October after heavy rain. It’s a proper working farm, so there isn’t much in the way of paved paths – wellies are definitely your friend here.

Once you’ve picked your pumpkins, you can hop back on the tractor to the main hub, where there’s a little play area for the kids. There are new additions including a wooden tractor play structure and slide, hay bales and even more photo opportunities.

There’s also a food and coffee kiosk, which is very welcome if you’ve ended up freezing and covered in mud.

Cannon Hall Farm Pumpkin Patch

This one is a proper full day out, as Cannon Hall Farm runs its pumpkin patch alongside all of the usual farm activities.

You can expect pumpkin picking and decorating, plus all the usual Cannon Hall Farm favourites – seeing the animals, gambling on the sheep and ferrets (yes, this is genuinely a thing!), and warming up afterwards in the reptile house or soft play.

The pumpkin patch itself is probably the cleanest one we’ve been to. There’s a lovely path running around it, so you don’t get anywhere near as much mud as you do at some of the more traditional patches. If you love pumpkin picking but can’t really be bothered with all the muck and dirt that usually comes with it, this is a really good option.

There’s also a craft zone where you can paint and decorate your pumpkin once you’ve picked it. Last year they were even carving them for you, although I’m not sure yet whether that’s included again this year.

I’d definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for something that fills most of the day rather than just a quick trip to pick a pumpkin.

Whistlestop Valley – Halloween Fun With Spike

This one is such an adorable Halloween day out, especially if you’ve got a little train lover.

There’s a miniature railway they can ride as many times as they like, which takes you around part of the park with spooky things to spot along the way. But the main event for us is the proper steam train ride up to Shelley Station, where Spike Bonzo the magician is waiting with his Halloween show.

There’s loads included in the ticket too, so it’s another one you can easily make a full day of. You get return steam train rides to Shelley Station, unlimited rides on the Clayton Flyer miniature railway, access to the jumping pillow, crazy golf, pedal cars, outdoor playgrounds and activities throughout the day.

There’s also an ice cream parlour up at Shelley Station, because apparently Yorkshire weather has never stopped a toddler asking for an ice cream.

The steam train journey takes around 25 minutes each way, and you can spend as long as you like at Shelley Station before heading back. Just make sure you leave Clayton West Station before 1.50pm if you want to catch Spike’s magic show.

The Ultimate Halloween Day Out – Stockeld Park

This is a new one we’re adding to the list this year, and we have it on good authority that it’s one of the best autumnal days out in Yorkshire – and we believe them.

We’ve visited Stockeld Park for pretty much every other event now apart from Halloween, and everything they do is magical, full of fun and absolutely incredible for the kids, so I had to include it.

For Halloween, the park completely transforms. You can jump on the tractor-trailer out to the Pumpkin Patch to pick your own pumpkin, meet the live-action Woodland Witches as you make your way through the Enchanted Forest, tackle the Monster Maze and make the most of six outdoor adventure playgrounds.

The Pumpkin Patch is a proper working field, so wellies are definitely a good idea. Entry to the patch and the tractor ride are included with an Adventure Park ticket, although pumpkins themselves cost extra.

For families with older children, you can also add Zombie Laser Tag for £5.50 per person. New for 2026, Stockeld is also running Pumpkin Nights on 17 and 24 October, with live music, roaming entertainment, autumn games, food and drinks down at the patch.

With everything included, I’d definitely save this one for when you want to go all-in and make a proper full day of Halloween.

Whether you’re after a free autumn walk, a £4 pumpkin patch or a full day of Halloween activities, there are some brilliant options across Yorkshire this year.

For us, it’s the places that give toddlers plenty to actually do rather than just providing a backdrop for pumpkin photos that we tend to go back to – although a good pumpkin photo never hurts.
