Foodie Recommendations in Manchester – Perfect for Valentine’s Day

Here are a few of my favourite foodie destinations to make your Valentine’s Day extra special.
Sugar Junction
Sugar Junction is a charming little café tucked away on Tib Street in the heart of the Northern Quarter. If you’re looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day breakfast, brunch, or lunch spot, this is one I’d highly recommend.
They serve the most delicious sandwiches made using homemade focaccia bread, alongside an incredible selection of sweet treats. Their French toast is a must-try — the pistachio one is my all-time favourite! Portions are extremely generous; my mum and I usually share a sandwich so we can save enough room for French toast afterwards (or one of their delicious cakes).
The café offers a breakfast menu filled with comforting classics, a brunch menu served until 3pm, and a lunch menu available from 12pm–5pm, including homemade pasta dishes.
If you’re planning a girlie date or treating your mum, they also serve afternoon tea from 10am–5pm — a lovely Valentine’s gift and day out wrapped into one.
Dogs are more than welcome, and the staff are always attentive and friendly. Sugar Junction feels like a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city — somewhere you can truly slow down, relax, and enjoy the company around you.
The Wharf
The Wharf is a cosy canalside pub located on the edge of Deansgate, overlooking the Manchester canal. It’s a gorgeous spot all year round, with traditional pub interiors inside and a heated beer garden outside — perfect whether February brings sunshine or classic Manchester drizzle.
In winter, the outdoor area stays warm and sheltered, while in summer the covers come down so you can bask in the sun with a pint by the water. Either way, you’re guaranteed a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The Wharf is also dog-friendly, with treats ready for your pups so they stay happily occupied while you tuck into their hearty meals. Their Sunday roast is a real Manchester staple — and although Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, it’s the perfect excuse to extend celebrations into Sunday with loved ones. I’d definitely recommend booking your table in advance.
They offer gluten-free and vegetarian options, a fantastic range of draft beers and stouts, and a great cocktail menu too. The staff are always incredibly welcoming and happy to cater to your needs.
Maricarmen
Maricarmen is a small but vibrant restaurant serving authentic Spanish tapas right in the heart of Manchester. With two locations — one in the Northern Quarter and another nearby in Ancoats — it’s an ideal choice for a relaxed yet romantic Valentine’s evening.
Tapas is one of my favourite cuisines, and this hidden gem never disappoints. Expect authentic Spanish dishes, beautiful charcuterie boards, and indulgent desserts — perfect for sharing while enjoying a gorgeous glass of wine.
The atmosphere creates a truly authentic dining experience, making it a brilliant date-night spot when you want to try a little bit of everything. The Northern Quarter location is walk-in only, which is great news if you’ve forgotten to book during the busy Valentine’s period — you might just be lucky enough to grab a table and still have an amazing night.
Whether you’re celebrating romance, friendship, or simply good food, these Manchester favourites offer the perfect setting to slow down, connect, and enjoy the moment this Valentine’s Day.
