Liverpool is a city that knows how to do nightlife right - the bar scene is as vibrant as its music history. Here are my top three spots that serve up great drinks and even better music.

Petit Café

First up – Petit Café. This is easily one of Liverpool’s most atmospheric spots, now with two venues – its original home on Berry Street in the city centre, and its stylish sister bar tucked away on Lark Lane.

Both Bars offer an extensive selection of wine and cocktails, served with care at your table. With candlelight and low lighting, these venues are the perfect spot for a slow evening with friends or a romantic date in an intimate, warm setting.

From Thursday to Sunday, expect to experience live jazz from talented musicians, bringing the heart of Paris to the centre of live music. Walk in only, Petit Café captures the charm of a Parisian jazz bar while remaining one of Liverpool’s most charming hidden gems.

Petit Café, Lark Lane, L17

Mon & Tue: Closed

Wed – Fri: 2 pm – 12 am

Suono

Up next – Suono, the new Japanese-style listening bar located on Liverpool’s vibrant Bold Street, is making some strong first impressions as a new favourite for many bar goers in the city.

This bar is inspired by Tokyo’s kissaten cafes, bringing ambient low lighting and a wide range of hand-crafted, delicious cocktails. If you’re looking for a taste of Japan, why not try one of their collection of Japanese whiskies, or their staple Suono Martini.

At 7 pm on weekdays and Sundays, expect to experience the purpose of Suono – to put music centre stage. One album – played in full, the way it was meant to be heard.

Suono, Bold Street, L1

Opening hours:

Tues – Sun: 7 pm – 2 am

Monday: Closed

Teddy’s

Finally, the fantastic and vibrant alternative bar and club – Teddy’s!

Teddy’s is a standout spot in Liverpool for anyone looking for a bar with serious character and a phenomenal soundtrack. While best known for its indie rock roots – playing hits from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Blondie and The 1975 – the DJs aren’t afraid to throw in curveballs, blending everything from Dizzee Rascal to Elton John and Charli XCX. The vibe is fun, unpretentious, and full of energy, with a crowd that’s always up for singing and dancing into the early hours.

Downstairs, it’s all about the party, especially on Saturdays, where the music is booming until 6 am. Thursdays offer more space for requests and unexpected tunes, perfect if you’re into discovering new favourites. With two floors and a DJ lineup that knows how to read a crowd, Teddy’s strikes a rare balance between laid-back bar and full-blown nightclub – making it a must-visit on any night out in Liverpool.

Look out for Resident DJ Luke No-Wave for their high-energy genre-blending sets that always keep the crowd moving!

Teddy’s, Slater Street, L1

Opening hours:

Mon – Wed – 10 pm – 4:30 am

Thurs & Sun – 10 pm – 5 am

Fri – 8 pm – 6 am

Sat – 7 pm – 6 am
