Staycation Inspiration - The Rocks Hostel at Plas Curig Review
What I loved about it:
Location, location, location. From the front door of the hostel, you could have a go at pretty much any outdoor adventure you put your mind to. Walking, climbing, running, swimming and more. There’s plenty to make your stay comfortable as well. Nobody expects a hostel to be anything more than bunk beds in a big room but this is something else.

There’s nothing better than walking from the door and not having to use your car whilst away. We left the hostel for a run and came back mid-afternoon ready to relax.
The Bedrooms are simple but very comfortable. The views out of the windows are stunning from all angles too. It will inspire all your adventures.
The personal touches like yoga mats, local beers, board games and books to read set this hostel apart from others. The place has personality and feels like somewhere you can cosy up and a home away from home.
At the Rocks Hostel at Plas Curig, you will feel welcomed by the atmosphere, decoration and wonderful people that work there.
Worth Getting a Babysitter?
No babysitter is needed. The Hostel caters for families with rooms of up to 5 or 6. There’s even the Retreat Cottage just next door which sleeps up to 7 comfortably and has everything you need for your time away.
Value For Money?
ABSOLUTELY 10/10! Saving money on a regular hotel plus getting all the personal touches as well is totally worth it! You can stay here on a budget in a shared room or treat yourself to something private and secluded. Having someone around all the time who can recommend places to eat, walks from the door, best mountains to climb and hidden treasures are priceless! £60 for a twin or double room
This is not your typical back-to-basics, dorms of 20, barely clean, nobody to help you, hostel. This is a locally run hostel with a difference where you feel the personal touch and could comfortably stay here for your whole holiday. You can even bring your furry, four-legged friend. The hostel has a small team that works for them which means lots of local knowledge and an incredibly helpful team.
The Kitchen and Dining area was clean, modern and full of up-to-date equipment. There was plenty of room for us to make dinner as well as other guests that were around too. Lots of large tables were in a separate area with room for everyone to dine. Plenty of games to keep everyone entertained as well. We even treated ourselves one night to a pesto pasta after a long day of adventuring, you can’t say we don’t know how to treat ourselves!
All the communal areas are pooch-friendly with places to attach their leads too. The areas are well thought out with plenty of cosy corners and warm fires to curl up with a book. There’s even the option to grab a yoga mat so you can stretch those legs out after a walk or a fridge full of local beers in reception that you can purchase as a reward for your day’s adventures. Perfect for any explorer.
The bedrooms at The Rocks Hostel at Plas Curig range from beautiful double rooms to dorms but don’t worry, no rickety old beds. These are beautifully made, built-in bunk beds that are incredibly comfortable to sleep in. There are rooms perfect for families of up to 5 as well. You ill share your bathroom with another room, it is a hostel after all! We changed rooms halfway through our stay and it was so easy. Nothing was too much trouble for Nick, who was working that day, and our room was ready before we got back from our run, perfect!
Hostel Facilities
A fully equipped kitchen for you to cook is more than big enough for everyone to whip up something for dinner. The bathrooms, although shared between you and another room, have everything you need.
Additional features like a drying room and fire pit outside make this hostel the perfect place to base all your adventures from.
Cost Per Person
The twin and double rooms start at £60 per night, which is only £30 each! An absolute bargain for being in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK and Wales, just miles from the base of Snowdon and Tryfan and 30 minutes from the beautiful Welsh coast and Isle of Anglesey. The Rocks Hostel at Plas Curig is amazing for everyone, value for money and a fantastic way to spend a well-earned break from the day to day madness.
